Radios

FRS and GMRS radios (walkie-talkies) are used for general radio communication among the CERT Team.

FRS (Family Radio Service) refers to a personal radio system with designated frequencies that allows individuals to operate radio transmitters and receivers with no special license or individual authorization.

GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) radio transmission requires a license issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The license is good for 10 years.

Radio Training

Training Video

An excellent radio training video produced by the Coastside CERT provides basic instruction and exercises.  Some of the content, such as neighborhood channel assignments, etc. is specific to the Coastside CERT and is not relevant to the Rengstorff/Shoreline CERT.  However, the video is useful as a basic primer.  Review the video HERE.
