The Rengstorff / Shoreline Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is one of 19 City defined CERT groupings. Our mission is to assist fellow residents in the CERT area during an emergency when city emergency responders are fully occupied. A priority for CERT during a major disaster is to assist the City of Mountain View Emergency Operation Center by gathering data on damage and conditions within the Rengstorff / Shoreline area so that the city can deploy resources most effectively. An additional benefit is building skills, familiarity, and mutual support among neighbors. Many of the members have completed CERT training, but completing the class is not a requirement to join.
The primary area covered by our Community Emergency Response Team is encompassed by:
North Boundary Crisanto Avenue/Villa Street
South Boundary El Camino Real
East Boundary Shoreline Boulevard
West Boundary Rengstorff Avenue

The City of Mountain View offers free training through the City’s Office of Emergency Services. CERT team training prepares local residents to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors in the event of a disaster. The training covers basic skills that are important to know in a disaster when emergency services may not be available. CERT members receive training in earthquake awareness, disaster fire suppression techniques, disaster medical operations, and light search and rescue, as well as team organization and management. Trained emergency personnel, including firefighters and emergency medical services personnel, teach all classes.
For more information or to register for an upcoming CERT training, see the City website for the CERT Academy Schedule.
